How many credit hours do I need for my biennial registration?
30 hours for Dentists in the two-year period preceding license renewal. 20 hours for Dental Hygienists in the two-year period preceding license renewal 10 hours for Expanded Function Dental Assistants in the two-year period preceding license renewal.
How many of the required credit hours can be taken in individualized study?
A maximum of 50% . Other 50% must be taken in a classroom setting.
What subject areas do not qualify for credit hours?
Billing, Office Management, Practice Building, Insurance Reimbursement, and Communication Skills, as well as repeating a program in the same renewal period unless the subject matter has substantially changed during that period.
Does CPR qualify for credit hours?
Although CPR is required at the time of license renewal, certification training hours will not be included as CDE hours.
Is it my responsibility to keep track of my credit hours?
Yes. It is the applicant's responsibility to keep evidence of his/her CDE activities for four years following license renewal in the event of an audit by the State Board of Dentistry. Evidence of course attendance and completion may take the form of vouchers, certificates or letters from approved sponsors, sponsor-generated printouts, or a certified transcription of the courses taken from an accredited college or university.
