Endodontics: Curriculum

ENDOD 2005 Master's research and thesis 1 units min / 3 units max
The resident will complete a scientific research study, to meet university requirements and to add scientific information to the dental community.

ENDOD 2211 - CASE PRESENTATION - 2 units

It is course will provide each resident with the experience of presenting clinical cases in a formal setting.  The cases will be discussed in detail, and the student must be prepared to answer questions regarding the general medical condition of the patient, as well as present an evidence based rational for the endodontic treatment provided.

ENDOD 2411 - CURRENT LITERATURE - 2 units

This class will entail the reading of current periodicals.  The students will abstract assigned articles and then present the abstract for discussion in a round table format.

ENDOD 2111 - ENDODONTOLOGY I - 2 units

This course is the study of the scientific rational for endodontic treatment.  The dental pulp and periapical tissues will be studied at the most basic cellular level.  This course will include the embryological development of all related structures; a study of the pathologic/physiologic occurrences of the pulp and periapex; and an understanding of the biological basis for endodontic treatment.

ENDOD 2711 -SYSTEMIC DISEASE/MEDICAL EMERGENCY 1- 1 unit

This course will examine the organ systems and how they impact the dental patient,  The course will also discuss medical emergencies in the endodontic office.

ENDOD 2380 - TOPICAL LITERATURE 1 - 2 units

This course will cover specific areas of endodontics through the review of classic and current literature.  The resident will be given reading assignments and will be required to present a narrative of the reading for further discussion in a small seminar format.

ENDOD 2811 - TEACHING?EMERGENCY CARE 1 - 3 units

The student is involved in teaching clinical endodontics to pre-doctoral dental students.  This will include consultation in the pre-doctoral clinics, and assisting the dental student with clinical techniques in endodontics.  The resident will also be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases in the pre-doctoral emergency clinic. .

ENDOD 2511 - CLINIC II -3 units
This course will involve the actual treatment of patients. THe resident will demonstrate both nonsurgical as well as surgical proficiency in the field of endodontics.

ENDOD 2611 - CLINICAL CONCEPTS 1 - 1 unit
This course will provide the clinical aspect of endodontic treatment. By presenting various techniques used to diagnose and treat the patient in the endodontic practice.

ENDOD 2821 - SPECIAL LECTURE SERIES II - 1 unit
This course will include an array of lectures that will be presented by experts in various fields, exposing the students toa wide variety of topics and ideas including practice management, dental jurisprudence and teach methodology.

ENDOD 2021 - TEACHING/EMERGENCY CARE II - 2 units
The student is involved in teaching clinical endodontics to pre-doctoral dental students. ENDOD 2721 - TRAUMATOLOGY II - 1 unit

This course will detail various types of dental trauma; the methods of treatment and possible long-term effects trauma have on oral structures.

ENDOD 2121 - ENDODONTOLOGY II - 2 units

ENDOD 2921 - ENDODONTIC SURGERY - 2 units

This course will provide the surgical aspect of endodontic treatment.  Proficiency in the treatment planning of endodontic surgery, as well as evidence based foundation for all aspects of surgical treatment will be explored.
