Office of Clinical Affairs

The Office of Clinical Affairs (OCA) oversees all aspects of clinical care provided by School of Dental Medicine residents and students. Dr. Marnie Oakley, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, directs this office that includes the Office of Patient Services; the central sterilization services; and the purchase, maintenance and distribution of instrumentation used in the delivery of patient care.

The Office of Patient Services is responsible for all patient engagement including providing general, intake, and billing information. Staff in this area support patient scheduling, registration, and financial counseling services. As an element of the school’s Quality Measurement and Improvement Plan, many of the school’s standards of care are measured and assessed using electronic health records managed by quality care specialist staff members. OCA also organizes and prepares quality assurance reports related to patient concerns and outcomes of patient satisfaction surveys. Account specialist staff also ensures that proper billing procedures are followed for the patient care services provided.

IMS/Central Store Management oversees the Instrument Store sales and issuance of rental equipment to students, residents, and departments. The manager of this area is responsible for central sterilization, instrument maintenance, and purchasing.

The central receiving area and room for biological waste and collection also are overseen by OCA.

OCA coordinates the activity of three standing committees of the School of Dental Medicine:

The Clinical Affairs Council (CAC) examines clinical productivity and marketing trends, as well as reviews and develops policy related to the provision of clinical services, clinical software and technology upgrades, and quality measurement and improvement outcomes.
