Department of Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric dentistry is the dental specialty that provides primary and comprehensive oral health care for children from infancy through adolescence and patients with special health care needs.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry fosters outreach and scholarly activity through the education of graduate and predoctoral students. The department’s competency-based curriculum provides predoctoral students with comprehensive didactic, preclinical, and clinical coursework, as well as extensive opportunities for community outreach such as Give Kids a Smile Days (GKASD). Community outreach events, such as GKASD, bring together faculty, staff, alumni and students to provide nearly $60,000 in free dental care to uninsured children and adolescents over the past eight years.
In addition, the department’s faculty mentor research projects through the Advanced Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program, as well as participate in scientific organizations, publications, and dissemination of knowledge through continuing education courses and invited lectures.
