Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry

Periodontal health is integral to your oral and overall health.

Practicing the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the gum and surrounding tissues, a periodontist strives to maintain the health, function and aesthetics of these structures. Pitt Dental Medicine's Department of Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry  promotes periodontal health through preventive methods and treatments using surgical and non-surgical techniques, as well as dental implant placement. A resource to both general dentists and periodontists locally and nationally, our program aims for optimal patient outcomes through the balance of appropriate, conservative treatments with the integration of cutting edge clinical strategies.

Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry Mission

In addition to providing excellent patient care, the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry also educates graduate and predoctoral students in the didactic and clinical applications necessary to perform the entire spectrum of periodontal procedures and to replace missing teeth with implants. From patient care to education, our program not only boasts a rich history, but keeps an eye to the future, in step with the Pitt Dental Medicine Mission to improve oral health through teaching, research and service.
