PROSTH 5242 DENTAL MATERIALS 2 (1unit)

Dental Materials 2 is an advanced materials lecture course that builds on the foundations taught in Dental Materials 1 and offers the second professional dental student in-depth understanding of the use, manipulation and effects of variables of advanced restorative materials.  The emphasis is at the macroscopic and microsopic levels for direct and indirect restorative materials.  The importance of critical thinking is necessary in understanding how materials effect advanced and complicated treatments the dental student would encounter in Advanced General Dentistry training programs.

PROSTH 5245 REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES 1 LABORATORY (1.5 units)

A laboratory course that emphasizes the use of a dental surveyor in removable partial denture design and applies the principles of mouth preparation thru structured practical exercises on stone casts and a dental typodont.  Both stock and custom dental impression trays and elastic impression materials are used to produce diagnostic and master casts.  Finally the student is taught the required paperwork and procedures necessary to legally submit a RPD prescription to a dental laboratory.

PROSTH 5241 FIXED PARTIAL DENTURES 2 (1 unit)

During this course the preparation of posterior teeth for a fixed partial denture, along with making an impression, fabrication of an all metal cast fixed partial denture and provisionalization of the prepared teeth are introduced.

PROSTH 5256 FIXED PARTIAL DENTURES 2 LAB (2.5 units)

This is the laboratory component of the didactic course fixed partial dentures 2.  Students perform the procedures necessary to fabricate an all metal cast fixed partial denture and the provisionalization of the prepared teeth.

PROSTH 5273 FIXED PARTIAL DENTURES 3 (1 unit)

This course will provide instruction on the preparation , placement and cementation of porcelain veneers, porcelain and composite inlays and onlays; and single unit all ceramic crowns.

PROSTH 5276 FIXED PARTIAL DENTURES 3 LAB (1.5 units)

This is the laboratory component of the didactic course Fixed Partial Dentures 3.  Students perform the procedures necessary to fabricate porcelain veneers, porcelain and composite inlays and onlays; and single unit all ceramic crowns.

PROSTH 5282 COMPLETE DENTURES 2 (1 unit)

Didactic completion of the treatment of totally edentulous patients with removable complete dentures.  Explains the use of biomaterials to improve the oral health of long term denture patients.  Continues with the treatment procedure required to fabricate various types of immediate complete dentures.  Concludes with the procedures required to rebase, reline and repair existing compete dentures.

PROSTH 5311 IMPLANTOLOGY 1 (1 unit)

This course in implant dentistry is a multidisciplinary teaching program structured to provide a basic learning didactic experience.  It presents an approach to the historical and biological basis for implantology, patient evaluation and treatment planning, implant surgery, provisionalization, definitive prosthodontic procedures and maintenance protocols.

PROSTH 5343 PRINCIPLES OF DENTAL OCCLUSION 2 (1 unit)

Continuation of instruction in prosthodontic procedures and terminology initiated in Occlusion 1.  Topics discussed include waxing techniques, development of cusp fossa relationships, replacement of missing tooth structure and lateral and protrusive excursions.
