Dr. Martinna Bertolini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Dentistry, and Dr. Ildeu Andrade Jr., Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, have received the 2026 AAP Richman Award for the project “Periodontal Phenotype as a Predictor of Gingival Recession During Orthodontic Treatment: A Prospective Clinical, Digital, and Biomarker-Based Pilot Study”. The study aims to identify factors that predict progression of gingival recession during orthodontic treatment in patients with mucogingival risk indicators. Findings from the project will help clinicians determine which patients may benefit from preventive periodontal treatment before orthodontic therapy and which can be safely monitored during treatment.
