Andrew Brown PhD

Dr. Andrew Brown is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Medicine and at the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR). Dr. Brown’s broad research interests include bioengineering, medical device development, translational research and academic commercial translation.
 
His specific research focus areas revolve around bone regeneration, tissue engineering and metallic magnesium for biomedical applications. In addition to his research work as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics and Preventive Medicine, he is the senior program manager for commercial translation at sciVelo, a translational research acceleration program at the University of Pittsburgh. As a result of his projects at the CCR, Dr. Brown has become very interested in medical device development, translational research and entrepreneurship.
 
Dr. Brown also works part-time as a biomedical engineer with the UPMC Artificial Heart Program. There, he cares for patients on ventricular assist devices and artificial heart pumps at UPMC Presbyterian and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He has additional experience in orthopedic biomechanics and medical simulation through undergraduate research at the Musculoskeletal Research Center and Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research. Dr. Brown was also a Patient Safety Fellow with the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, applying Lean principles to hospital pharmacy workflow improvements. In his spare time he can be found running, swimming or traveling.
 
Research Interests

Dr. Brown’s broad research interests are in bioengineering, medical device development, translational research and academic commercial translation.
