In 1969, she graduated from the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Pittsburgh and went on to complete her bachelor’s degree at Columbia University in Dental Hygiene Education.  During her graduate years at the University of Arizona, while studying nutrition and food science, Ms. Platt operated as a National Health Service Corps Public Health Dental Hygienist, Dental Health Educator for the Tucson Unified School District, and dental terminology educator for Tucson Medical Center’s medical personnel.

Upon her return to the Pittsburgh area in 1989, Ms. Platt continued to expand her scope of practice. Her passion for integrating the domains of public health and education were realized when she completed her master’s training in health promotion and education. Ms. Platt arrived at The School of Dental Medicine in 1998, and aside from her present designations, she has served as Clinical Faculty and Course Director in the Dental Hygiene Program along with that of Research Dental Hygienist in Oral Biology.
