Supporting Pittsburgh's Homeless Veterans

As November 11, 2023—Veterans Day—approaches, please remember the homeless veterans of our city. In their youth, these brave men and women gave their all to protect the freedoms that each of us enjoy. Many of our current brave, young vets are returning from their “in country” deployments with physical and psychological disabilities.

While there are grants available to get these veterans into transitional or permanent housing, there is no money to help them meet basic household needs such as towels, dishes, eating utensils, blankets, toiletries, etc.

The Tau Sigma Military Club is “passing the hat” from now through Veteran’s Day to raise whatever we can to help these veterans purchase such items. Our goal is $3000 this year. One hundred percent of the funds collected will go to the Homeless Vets between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year, we have partnered with the Shepard’s Heart Homeless Veterans Shelter, which is affiliated with the Pittsburgh VA Hospital.

Donations can be made at the Tau Sigma table during the noon lunch hour in Salk Atrium over the next few weeks. You also may donate via GoFundMe.

Tau Sigma military dental club has now grown from one to 39 chapters at dental schools across the country, involving several hundred HPSP sponsored dental students, all of whom will be doing their part to help homeless veterans across the country.

Listed below are the days that we will be collecting in the atrium at noon over lunch:

October 18, 25, November 1 and November 6 thru 10

Donations also may be made via GoFundMe at this link.

The online donation process is very simple and requires no account registration. 100% of your donation will make it to homeless veterans! Nothing is lost to fees. Our goal is $3000 this year—anything helps!

Keep an eye out for information on our annual Spin For Vets Fundraiser—an annual spin class hosted by Dean Oakley, which will be sent out soon.

Thank you for your time and generosity!

Respectfully,
