Construction News May 19, 2023

A paving project is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 19, 2023 on Terrace Street, Darragh Street and Lothrop Street around the School of Dental Medicine. Please see the map below for detailed information about this project. 

The project is expected to be completed in one day.

Construction News April 11, 2023

Beginning Wednesday, April 12, 2023 through Wednesday, April 19, 2023, De Soto Street and the adjacent sidewalks will be closed between 5th Ave and O’Hara for a UPMC crane lift.

During this time, please plan accordingly and give yourself some extra time when coming to campus.

Construction News November 1, 2022

Please see map below for changes to traffic patterns around Pitt Dental Medicine.

  • Terrace Street from the UPMC Presbyterian Parking Structure entrance to DeSoto Street will be closed in the north east direction lane.
  • DeSoto Street will be closed from Terrace Street to the parking garage entrance on DeSoto Street.
  • Lothrop Street will be closed between Terrace Street and the UPMC Presbyterian Parking Structure entrance.

Pitt Dental Medicine patients, please plan to arrive in Oakland approximately 30-45 minutes before your appointment time due to increased traffic around Pitt Dental Medicine. 

Access to the UPMC Presbyterian Parking Structure on Terrace Street is available for those patients wishing to park there.


Driving Directions to the School of Dental Medicine

From the east

From Interstate 376 East, take the Oakland (Bates St.) exit. Continue ahead on Bates St. to McKee Place. Turn left onto McKee Place and continue on McKee Place, crossing Forbes Ave., and Fifth Ave., bear slightly to the right. McKee Place becomes Darragh St. Continue up the hill on Darragh St. to stop light at Terrace St. Turn right onto Terrace St. The School of Dental Medicine is on the left and the parking garage is on the right.

From the north

From Interstate 279 South, take the Veterans Bridge exit and follow signs to Interstate 376 East via the Boulevard of the Allies. Take the Forbes Avenue/Oakland exit. Keep left onto Forbes Avenue and continue to McKee Place. Turn left onto McKee Place and continue across Fifth Avenue as above.

From the south

Exit Fort Pitt Tunnel (right lane) following sign to Interstate 376 East. Take 376 East and exit at Forbes Avenue/Oakland. Follow Forbes to McKee Place. Turn left onto McKee Place and continue across Fifth Avenue as above.

From the west

Head south to I-376 Monroeville exit. Follow 376 to Forbes Ave/Oakland exit (72A.) Follow Forbes to McKee Place. Turn left onto McKee Place and continue across Fifth Avenue as above.

Transportation Resources

Greyhound

The Greyhound bus station in Pittsburgh is located at 11th Street and Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh. The terminal may be reached by local buses. Call 800-231-2222 for fare and schedule information.

Port Authority of Allegheny County

Port Authority is a publicly owned, mass transit system operated by Allegheny County. Fares vary and exact change is required. Local buses #71A, B, C, or D; or #67 come into Oakland and may be boarded along Fifth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.

zTrip (Yellow Cab)

The zTrip (Yellow Cab) provides service to the University of Pittsburgh/Oakland area. The fare from downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland is approximately $10. The fare from the airport is approximately $50. If you need more information, please call zTrip at 855-699-8747.

Parking

Please allow plenty of time for traffic and parking congestion in the Oakland area.

On-street metered parking is frequently available on a first-come-first-serve basis throughout the area. Meters can be paid using a credit card at designated kiosks, or using the Go Mobile PGH app.

Both Presbyterian and Montefiore Hospitals of UPMC offer covered parking garages within a short walking distance to Pitt Dental Medicine. Parking validation is available at the registration desk.

The Pitt OC parking lot is also available to visitors to Pitt Dental Medicine. Located on Allequippa Street next to Trees Hall and behind the Petersen Event Center, parking is available, first-come-first-serve, for cash payment.

The Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics (CCDG) is not located in Salk Hall with the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. If you need directions to CCDG, please visit the CCDG Maps & Directions page.
