Pitt Dental Medicine is building a pipeline to deliver more talent into the dental assisting career through online learning coupled with clinical training at community dental offices.

Trainees enrolled in this novel program complete their educational courses with Pitt Dental Medicine faculty for a three-month period. Following the online coursework, the trainees will complete a three-week paid clinical internship in dental offices such as yours throughout Pennsylvania. Upon completion of the clinical training period, trainees in this program will have the skills and knowledge to become successful dental assistants who you can hire for full-time work in your office.*

Dental Assisting Training Program Highlights

  • Three weeks of clinical training will begin once the trainee successfully completes their online educational coursework led by Pitt Dental Medicine
  • Clinical training sites can be anywhere in Pennsylvania near where the trainee lives

*A one year work commitment can be made between the Dental Assistant Trainee and your office. Once they successfully complete their training, they will be ready for full-time employment as a dental assistant.
**Each participating dental office will be responsible to pay the agreed upon training wages of any dental assistant trainee for hours worked to fulfill the required 112.5 hours of the Program internship.
