General Practice Residency Program

The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine General Practice Residency (GPR) program offers residents the opportunity to participate in one of two advanced education experiences: the GPR in Oakland takes place on Pitt's urban Oakland campus and UPMC campus, while the GPR at Regional Training Centers (RTC) provides education and clinical practice that takes place in one of several rural communities in Pennsylvania. Residents completing either GPR Program are held to the same standards and expectations and will earn a Certificate of Training.

University of Pittsburgh Regional Training Center GPR Program

The General Practice Residency (GPR) Program, in partnership with regional hospital centers, offers a one-year program that provides residents with postdoctoral clinical and didactic experiences beyond what can be accomplished in a predoctoral program. Residents are provided education and clinical experience in one of several rural communities across Pennsylvania, in partnership with regional hospitals in those areas. This program provides training in an environment similar to a private practice in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility, while making a meaningful impact on the oral health of communities in underserved areas. Current locations include Titusville, Bradford, and Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Three (3) residents are enrolled at each of three locations for a combined total of nine (9) residents each year. Residents completing the GPR earn a Certificate of Training.

University of Pittsburgh Oakland GPR Program

The General Practice Residency (GPR) Program, co-sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), offers a one-year program that provides residents with postdoctoral clinical and didactic experiences. Based at Pitt Dental Medicine and on the UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside Campuses, the program enrolls a combined total of three (3) residents each year. Residents completing the GPR earn a Certificate of Training.
