Hans-Thomas Heupel, MDT, is the Manager of the Dental Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He brings nearly 40 years of experience in dental technology, laboratory management, digital dentistry, implant restorations, and esthetic restorative dentistry. Mr. Heupel earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business Administration and Dental Technology in Germany and holds the German Master Dental Technician (MDT/Meister) qualification. Throughout his career, he has held leadership, educational, consulting, and operations management positions in Germany, Liechtenstein, Belgium, France, Canada, China, and the United States. His professional interests include digital workflow integration, CAD/CAM technologies, quality management, laboratory-clinical communication, and advancing dental education through collaboration between clinicians and dental laboratory professionals. Outside of work, Mr. Heupel enjoys cycling, skiing, photography, baking artisan bread, and spending time with his daughter at equestrian competitions.
