Thomas C Kunkel DMD FACP

Dr. Thomas Kunkel is an assistant professor and program director for the Prosthodontics Residency Program in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. 

Dr. Kunkel, a Pittsburgh native, received his education and training from the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating in 1981 with a degree in life sciences, he enrolled in the Pitt School of Dental Medicine. He then completed a 2-year residency in prosthodontics at Pitt Dental Medicine and a 1-year residency in maxillofacial prosthodontics at the Eye and Ear Institute in Pittsburgh. Dr. Kunkel maintained a successful private practice in the Pittsburgh area for 25 years and earned his certification from the American Board of Prosthodontists in 1994.   

During his time in private practice, Dr. Kunkel was a Pitt Dental Medicine part-time instructor for 13 years and became a full time instructor in 2013. He was appointed chair of the Prosthodontic Department in 2018 and program director in 2019. He is committed to the long-term success of the undergraduate and graduate prosthodontic training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
