Responsibilities

Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before, during and after their examination
Clean and help protect patients' teeth (e.g. remove plaque or apply fluoride)
Identify conditions such as gingivitis, caries or periodontitis
Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
Educate patients of all ages on proper oral health care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
Take X-rays
Assist dentists with gathering information to decide on appropriate treatments for various conditions
Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
