Professional Opportunity: Full Time

This professional level position serves as the clinical director for the Dental Center.   The General Dentist is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums and related oral structures.  The general dentist may also treat diseases of the nerve, pulp, or other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth.  The dentist provides daily direction and supervision of all clinical staff, ensures the highest standards of dental/medical care is provided to patients.  The incumbent ensures the safety and professional operation of the dental center and, in cooperation with the business manager and headquarter, ensures all necessary OSHA and HIPAA training is current.  This includes ensuring ongoing compliance with all relevant laws.

tilizes all appropriate PPE to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases.
Examines teeth, gums and related tissues using dental instruments, x-rays, and other diagnostic tools to evaluate dental health, and diagnose diseases or abnormalities.
Develops and schedules treatment plans for restorative care and ongoing oral health maintenance.
Administers anesthetics to limit pain and utilizes accepted techniques in patient management to minimize anxiety or fear.
Uses air turbine and hand instruments, dental appliances, and surgical implements to effect treatments.
Treats exposure of pulp, by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal using proper dental instruments. Fills pulp chamber and canal with endodontic materials (anterior teeth). Refers patients with advanced endodontic needs (molars) to other medical professionals for follow up care.
Designs, creates, and fits prosthodontic appliances such as space maintainers, dentures, crowns or writes fabrication instructions or prescriptions for denturists and dental technicians.
Performs minor oral and periodontal surgery on the jaw or mouth.
Provide leadership and direction to the dental office staff regarding accepted dental policies, state and insurance mandates and regulations.
Participates in periodic (monthly) dental center leadership team meetings, offering advice for continuous improvement of all operations.
Ensures each employee’s credentials for employment are maintained with regards to continuing education for the entire dental staff, including the scheduling of any mandatory classes, coordinating with divisional headquarters and office management.
Complete staff annual performance reviews, as directed by headquarters.
Ensures compliance with all facilities, local, state, and national dental office equipment requirements.
Maintain all licensure requirements to practice dentistry in PA.
Regularly reviews operations of the practice for operational cost reduction, efficiency improvement and improved quality of service delivery.  This may include modifying procedures or policies, in consultation with headquarters regarding operational changes.
Coordinate schedules with the dentist at the Johnstown office and headquarters to provide mutual support to the practice operations and to patients.
Review and manage choice of, use, and expenses related to office and clinical supplies for cost effectiveness as well as to ensure appropriateness of purchases (best supplies and materials for applications, etc.).
Review reimbursement levels to ensure the proper reimbursement for our procedures.
