Welcome MaryJane Anderson, DMD, MD

Dear Colleagues,

I am very excited to announce that Dr. MaryJane Anderson will be joining the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) as a full-time faculty member. Dr. Anderson’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Vermont, a masters in bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania, a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MD from the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh.

During residency Dr. Anderson was an active member of the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has lectured for the Western Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has provided in-service education for hospital OR staff, and has contributed multiple lectures to various groups within the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Anderson’s research interests include pain modulation in temporomandibular joint disorders and perioperative analgesia for the ambulatory patient. She is interested in reducing the reliance of narcotic pain medication in office-based procedures.

Clinically, Dr. Anderson has expertise in a variety of areas including orthognathic (jaw) surgery, implant placement, pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, TMJ disorders, facial trauma, treatment of complex facial tumors, and maxillofacial reconstruction. Having been trained in medicine and dentistry, she also has expertise in a variety of teaching models for clinical settings and interprofessional education.

We are overjoyed that Dr. Anderson has chosen the University of Pittsburgh to begin her academic career and look forward to the success we are sure that she will have. Please reach out to welcome her to the Pitt Dental Medicine and UPMC family. She will be caring for patients here at Pitt Dental Medicine and at several of our UPMC facilities, such as UPMC Mercy, UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Children’s, and UPMC Shadyside.
