Ahmed El Sergani BDS, PhD, MOMS RCSEd

Dr. Sergani graduated from the Faculty of Oral & Dental Medicine at Misr International University in Egypt with an academic distinction with high honors. He then completed advanced hospital-based residency training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the Nasser Institute Hospital. He is certified by the Arab Board of Health Specializations in oral & maxillofacial surgery, and the Membership in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MOMS RCSEd). Upon completing advanced clinical training, he then completed his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine within the Department of Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. Dr. Sergani has also acquired extensive training in contemporary evidence-based teaching and assessment methods. This includes an advanced certificate in clinical education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), and advanced certificates from the Center for Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL).

As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Sergani’s academic endeavor revolves around bridging the basic science and clinical realms. As part of the Imaging and Morphometrics Lab at the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics (CCDG), his research focuses on the application of morphometrics and statistical shape analyses in the diagnostics, objective assessment of risk and outcome, as well as planning for shape-altering clinical care in congenital and acquired orofacial deformities. He has published in multiple prestigious journals including The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal, The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, Frontiers in Genetics, and Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research. In addition, he also serves as a reviewer for numerous journals including Journal of Dental Research, Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research, Journal of Applied Oral Science, Scientific Reports, and Public Library of Science (PLoS) One. In terms of teaching, Dr. Sergani is an avid proponent of integrated clinical education. This blends basic science concepts with clinical applications to yield a solid foundation of knowledge and sound clinical judgement; both of which are essentials for excellence in clinical care.”
