Dr. Jacqueline Marjorie Burgette earned her DMD degree at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She received her pediatric dentistry certificate and PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Burgette’s training program was supported by the Clinical Research Scholars Program (NIDCR T32) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry. Her dissertation research on the effect of Early Head Start on children’s dental use and oral health-related quality of life was funded by a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for Postdoctoral Fellows (AHRQ T32; Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill). Dr. Burgette continues to be affiliated as a research fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Burgette joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2017 and serves as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Dental Public Health and Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Burgette is serving as a 2022-2023 White House Fellow
Dr. Burgette’s research addresses oral health disparities in children through health services research. Specifically, Dr. Burgette is conducting research on the impact of mothers’ social networks on children’s oral health utilization, practices and dental caries experience. This research is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program.
Dr. Burgette’s research has appeared in the Journal of the American Dental Association, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, Journal of Dental Research, and the American Journal of Public Health. Her work also has been recognized by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Association of Public Health Dentistry, American Association for Dental Research, and American Public Health Association.
In addition to conducting research, Dr. Burgette is a board-certified pediatric dentist. She provides pediatric dental care at University Dental Health Services (UDHS) and teaches clinical pediatric dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.
