Pitt Dental Medicine Positively Impacts the Dental Health of the Sharon, Pa. Community

RAM Clinic in Sharon Pa 2025

Remote Area Medical (RAM) free pop-up dental clinic was held this past weekend at the Sharon Senior High School in Sharon, Pa. Students and faculty from University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine were there to help make a difference in the lives of our southwestern Pa. community.

Five area dentists joined Pitt Dental Medicine students and faculty members—Drs. Nyla Balakrishnan, Michael Parenti, Kevin Pursel, Mark Silberg, and Ms. Adrien Roberts—and saw 171 patients, providing $138,670 worth of care.

Dr. Balakrishnan, program director for SCOPE clinical outreach, stated that "... members of the community and the local dentists profusely thanked Pitt Dental Medicine and mentioned that this event would not have been successful without our faculty and students. They also commended how organized, well prepared and enthusiastic our students were, along with the unwavering commitment to serve despite the air-conditioning mishap. Thank you, dear students—you make us proud!" Dean Marnie Oakley adds that this is definitely a "Proud Pitt Dental Medicine moment!"
