DMD Second-Year Curriculum

The second year theme, “Diagnosis and Treatment Planning.” continues the focus of the first year. Students take courses in the clinical sciences, such as anesthesiology, pharmacology and oral pathology. Instruction includes the fundamentals of diagnosis and treatment planning with opportunities to work on simulated cases with clinical faculty. Standardized patients provide an opportunity to practice the presentation of a treatment plan. Preclinical lab experiences build on the first year with courses in fixed and removable prosthodontics. Clinical work with patients in the area of health promotion and disease prevention continues during this year, as do rotations in the comprehensive care area of the school. The year culminates with a student case presentation to a faculty panel that demonstrates application of knowledge to patient care.
